Superior Technical Services Enhances Siemens Power Plant Operations with Advanced SRV Online Testing

Between 2021 and 2022, Superior Technical Services (STS), a division of Superior Group, entered into a strategic agreement with Siemens to conduct online testing and repair of 336 Safety Relief Valves (SRVs) across multiple Siemens power plants. This collaboration aimed to ensure the optimal performance and safety of critical valve systems without disrupting plant operations.

Utilizing the PreVenTest system, an advanced online testing technology, STS performed in-situ assessments of SRVs under actual process conditions. This method offers several significant advantages:

• Accurate Testing in Process Conditions: By evaluating valves during normal operations, STS ensured precise measurement of performance metrics, reflecting real-time operational dynamics.

• No Plant Shutdowns: The online testing approach eliminated the need for halting plant operations, maintaining continuous power generation and operational stability.

• No Dismantling of Valves: In-situ testing negated the necessity to remove valves from their installations, reducing the risk of potential damage and ensuring system integrity.

• No Loss of Productivity: Continuous operations during testing meant that productivity levels remained unaffected, supporting Siemens’ commitment to efficiency.

• No Loss of Profitability: By avoiding shutdowns and maintaining productivity, the financial performance of the power plants was preserved.

The PreVenTest system, renowned for its precision and reliability, played a pivotal role in this project. Its application allowed for the accurate determination of valve set pressures and performance characteristics without interrupting plant processes. This technology is widely accepted and recommended by major relief valve manufacturers for its efficacy in online testing scenarios.
